Hope For When You Feel Alone at Christmas

Do you ever feel alone at Christmas? Ever wish there was someone who understands? Who would share the pain with you? Who could get close enough to comfort you?

I’m feeling really blessed this Christmas, but Lord has been reminding me that His heart aches for those who are hurting, and that He is God with us, and He came to make a way that we can know Him.

I remember times when I was sad at Christmas, and how tenderly He helped me as I turned to Him. I remember how thoughtful little gifts comforted me, and books about His love soothed me, and how I sensed His loving arms when my heart ached.

In all the craziness of Christmas, I believe that, behind it all, is the beautiful reminder that God cares, God understands, and God came close (you can find more about how to know Him here). I believe He cares so much that Jesus came to make a way of forgiveness: a way we can come back to Him. A way that involved Him suffering in this heartbreaking world, and even giving His life.

I believe that God is the God of all comfort, and that His open arms wait to help us and share our pain with us, when we surrender, receive His forgiveness, and let Him in.

I wrote a song about God coming close to us. I don’t have a quality recording available at the moment, but you can click below to get an idea of how it goes.

God Come Close

God come close
God come near
God is with us
God is here

Now we can’t think You’re far away
Can’t think You don’t care
You’ve come to make a way
Your open arms await

Prince of peace Lord of heaven
Saviour of the sinner, now I know
I found hope. I’ll never be alone
Cos You are God come close

You will grow
You’ll bring hope
You will suffer
Your blood will flow

There on that cross for us
You’ll die to save us
Now in love You call us
Your open arms await

Prince of peace Lord of heaven
Saviour of the sinner, now I know
I found hope. I’ll never be alone
Cos You are God come close

So here I kneel before this Baby
Here I lay my burdens down
Here I’m asking You to wash me
Jesus I surrender now

Emmanuel God is with me
You’re the hope of all the world
You have come in love to save me
At the manger now I bow

Prince of peace Lord of heaven
Saviour of the sinner, now I know
I found hope. I’ll never be alone
Cos You are God come close

Now You are so close.

However you are this Christmas, I pray you’ll know that God cares, and God has come so that you can find eternal hope in Him, through the Baby Who came to make a way for us to be forgiven, when we turn, surrender and receive His forgiveness.

I am encouraged that He was close then, He is close now, and His open arms wait. For you.

May you know His love in a special way.
