When You Are Soothed by Beauty

Do you enjoy being refreshed by the beauty of creation?

Last weekend, I was really blessed to go to the Lake District with my church family. It’s so refreshing to get out into the beauty of God’s creation! Somehow, beauty can refresh my spirit and remind me that it’s all ultimately in His hands.

On another similar weekend in the Lakes years ago, I wrote a poem, looking out on beautiful hills and feeling encouraged by Who God is, that He holds it all in His hands, and that, though this world may shake, I am secure as His child in Christ (you can know that hope and reassurance too if you come to know Him through Jesus- find out more here).

Hills

Life gleams on the far-flung hills,
Water soft and still-so still
Set against the gentle rills:
Beauty wide and wonderful.

Trees etched soft, standing so tall:
Thick cascade of rose-cloud falls,
Nestled in the wide, wide hills:
Strong and calm and beautiful.

Gleam and glow that dulls to still.
Lights spring out to soothe and call,
Set against the wide, strong hills
Soft and calming, wide and full.

Cooling and soothing, singing still,
Gently now, the beauty cools
Darkness tender, gently falls
To rest against the soft, strong hills.

God is God. He reigns. I’m still.
I know now that all is well.
Turmoil rests in beautiful.
His hand holds the wide, wide hills.

I’m thankful for God’s refreshment and encouragement. And I hope you can also be refreshed by beauty soon, too!

And I pray that you too will discover the hope of knowing Him for yourself through Jesus, so that the promises that comfort me can be yours, too.
