Isn’t it easy to forget what you have? To take it for granted and not even really notice it anymore?

Or to get caught up in minor issues that can trick you into losing your perspective?
Like a delayed train, which happened to me this week. It happens, and suddenly it’s the biggest deal that you might be late. But it isn’t that a big deal, really! And actually, what looked like a big delay for me ended up being a minor one.
I find that it’s so helpful to just stop, and catch your breath, and remember what you are thankful for.
For me right now, it’s being grateful that I’ve been able to record songs, and share them with people last week, with the help of a loving church family and friends. And then God amazed me by someone offering to edit a live recording, which should be available at some point! Music has always been a longing I’ve carried, and I didn’t really know what to do with it or how it was even possible, but God makes miracles, and He made it a reality. You can read an old post about that here.
Or the ministry I get to serve with, which is such a blessing, and makes such a difference, and is the fulfilment of a desire God put on my heart (I can’t share lots here because of security, but ask me if you want to know more).
So many loving, caring people in my life, in different places.
Living in a country that’s at peace. Running water. Enough food.
Or…. Remember Covid? Back in 2020, a hug or a meal with family or a coffee with friends or a normal church service felt like an impossible miracle. It’s easy to forget now, but there was a time when we couldn’t take those things for granted. When you would have given an awful lot for a hug, or an in- person catch-up with that person you couldn’t see.
Or the little things, like daffodils emerging, and bright, sunny mornings, and the taste of something sweet.
And, most of all, I’m thankful for the presence of the Lord, and His love and promises to me (you can know Him, too- you can find out more here).
When I stop and think about it, I have so much to be thankful for.
And noticing it stops me in my tracks, and brings me joy.
It reminds me of the kindness of God. The faithfulness of God to those who follow Jesus. That I don’t need to worry. That He has been faithful. That He has come through. And surely He will continue to do so!
It’s easy to get caught up in the negatives. But noticing the positives really helps. I am blessed! I have so much! I get to live! I get to know God. I am so very blessed!
What are you thankful for today?
